Engineering Manager II - AI & Security
Uber
Software Engineering, Other Engineering, Data Science
Amsterdam, Netherlands
About the Role
We’re hiring an Engineering Manager II to lead a team at the intersection of Security and AI. This team builds systems that proactively detect, prevent, and respond to security and privacy risks across our platform.
This is a high-impact role where you will define strategy, scale systems, and lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and applied scientists. Your work will directly influence how we secure modern application stacks, data systems, and emerging AI-powered products.
What You’ll Do
1. Lead and grow a high-performing team of software engineers and applied scientists, setting a high bar for execution, technical rigor, and collaboration
2. Define and drive the roadmap for security and AI-driven systems, translating ambiguous problem spaces into clear priorities and deliverables
3. Build intelligent systems that automate detection, classification, and remediation of risks across code, data, and infrastructure
4. Secure AI-powered applications through continuous evaluation, monitoring, and defense against emerging threats (e.g., prompt injection, data leakage, model misuse)
5. Partner with infrastructure, data, and product teams to embed security controls and signals into the developer ecosystem
6. Scale systems and processes that improve security posture while maintaining developer velocity
What You’ll Bring
1. Proven engineering leadership experience managing teams in platform, infrastructure, or related domains at scale
2. Strong ability to operate in ambiguous problem spaces and translate them into clear technical direction
3. Working knowledge of security fundamentals (e.g., access control, data protection, secure system design), with the ability to partner effectively with domain experts
4. Experience building or working with ML/AI-driven systems
5. Track record of shipping and scaling production systems
6. Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering, product, and security stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience working in security, privacy, or trust-related domains
2. Familiarity with LLMs or GenAI systems in production
3. Background in large-scale distributed systems, data platforms, or risk detection systems
Why This Role Matters
Security and AI are converging rapidly. This team sits at the center of that shift—building systems that not only respond to threats, but anticipate and prevent them at scale. You’ll play a key role in shaping how modern platforms defend themselves in an AI-driven world.
