About the Role

Applied AI is a horizontal AI team at Uber collaborating with business units across the company to deliver cutting-edge AI solutions for core business problems. We work closely with engineering, product and data science teams to understand key business problems and the potential for AI solutions, then deliver those AI solutions end-to-end.

We are building AI powered products that help Merchant operate smarter and faster through various surfaces including conversational assistant, proactive insights, and applied ML systems. As an Engineering Manager on the Merchant AI, you will lead a group of engineers delivering customer facing AI features that directly impact merchant growth, efficiency and satisfaction. You will balance people leadership, technical direction, and product execution in this role.

What the Candidate Will Do:

1. Partner with Product Managers and cross-functional engineering teams to define the long-term roadmap for Merchant AI
2. Lead and grow a high-performing team building AI-driven merchant products (AI assistants, recommendations, predictions, automations)
3. Own delivery of end to end AI products, from problem framing and model development to production systems and UX integration.
4. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high ownership culture that values creativity, ownership, and continuous learning.
5. Provide mentorship, clear career paths, and development opportunities to help engineers grow as technical and thought leaders.
6. Own engineering quality, reliability and operational excellence.

What the Candidate Will Do:

1. B.S./M.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical fields.
2. 12+ years of industry experience in machine learning or software engineering, with a proven record of delivering ML solutions to production, i ncluding 3+ years in engineering management role leading ML, backend systems.
3. Experience designing and scaling ML systems or platforms, including training pipelines, serving infrastructure, and model lifecycle management.
4. Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to drive clarity, alignment, and accountability across global teams.
