About the Role

The General Manager (GM), Uber Eats Austria, is the single-threaded leader responsible for the strategy, growth, and P&L of the Uber Eats business across the country. This high-impact role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, exceptional commercial judgment, and robust operational skills to launch and lead one of Uber Eats' most dynamic European markets.

You will set the vision, define the local strategy, help build and lead the local team, and act as the primary face of Uber Eats to the media, government, and key partners in Austria. You'll partner closely with the Regional leadership team to advocate for the Austrian market and leverage global resources for local success.

What the Candidate Will Do

Full P&L Ownership & Strategy

  • Own the Business: Take full responsibility for the financial health of Uber Eats Austria, including budgeting, forecasting, and driving key business levers (e.g., revenue, margin, gross bookings) to achieve sustainable, profitable growth.
  • Set the Vision: Define and execute the comprehensive country strategy, including expansion into new cities or product verticals (e.g., grocery, retail) in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Marketplace Optimization: Continuously monitor and improve the health of the three-sided marketplace through data-driven operational and strategic initiatives.

Operational Excellence & Execution

  • High-Impact Projects: Strategically lead high-priority, cross-functional projects aimed at improving operational efficiency (e.g., reducing delivery times, improving reliability, preventing fraud).
  • Team Leadership: Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing local team, fostering a culture of accountability, data-centric decision-making, and rapid execution.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary local conduit, working collaboratively with Regional and Global teams (e.g., Product, Central Operations, Marketing, Legal, Policy) to ensure local needs are met and global initiatives are successfully localized and implemented.

External Representation & Partnership

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the key external representative for Uber Eats Austria, proactively engaging with top restaurant groups, strategic retail partners, regulatory bodies, and media.
  • Policy & Communications: Work directly with the Policy and Communications teams to manage local narratives, proactively address regulatory challenges, and ensure the business operates in a compliant and sustainable manner.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in a high-growth, fast-paced commercial environment (e.g., tech, e-commerce, retail, consulting), with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role having direct P&L accountability.
  • Business Acumen: Proven ability to manage a full P&L and drive revenue, margin, and market share growth.
  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional ability to independently extract, interpret, and combine data from various sources to uncover root causes and generate actionable insights (familiarity with SQL and advanced data visualization is highly desirable).
  • Communication & Influence: Excellent interpersonal skills and situational awareness to clearly and persuasively deliver information to a variety of internal and external audiences, including C-level partners and government officials.
  • Fluency in German & English (written and verbal) is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in on-demand logistics, delivery, or a multi-sided marketplace business model.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, coach, and lead high-performing, multi-functional teams.
  • Deep understanding of the Austrian consumer market and the local competitive and regulatory landscape.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, mainly within the EMEA region, up to 25% of the time.
