Payment Compliance sits at the core of the onboarding, ongoing and payment disbursement lifecycles and determines when users can go online and get paid.
As the Engineering Manager II on the Payment Compliance platform team, you will lead a team responsible for building the foundational systems that power enhance due diligence, risk rating, workflow orchestration, decisioning, ML based doc transcription and optimising manual case adjudication systems. These systems are tier-1 mission-critical infrastructure used across onboarding and ongoing lifecycles of all type of Uber users.
This is a hybrid role focused on building scalable, reliable, and evolvable payment compliance systems in close partnership with DE, DS, and Product teams while shaping UX to deliver the best possible experience to our users.
You will be responsible for growing and leading a high-performing engineering team, defining technical strategy, and ensuring the reliability and scalability of payment compliance infrastructure used across the organization.

Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Own the technical strategy and roadmap for payment compliance platform
- Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, observable, and performant at large scale
- Drive architectural clarity across various layers and stakeholder teams
- Partner with DE and Data Science teams to enable rapid experimentation and model iteration
Team Leadership & Development
- Hire, grow, and develop a team of talented engineers, including senior and staff-level engineers
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and career development support
- Establish clear ownership, operational excellence, and strong engineering fundamentals
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with DE, DS, Product, and Platform teams
- Enable DS/DE teams to iterate faster by building robust experimentation, logging, and model integration infrastructure
- Align technical roadmaps across multiple teams and organizational boundaries
- Drive clarity around ownership, interfaces, and system responsibilities
Execution & Operational Excellence
- Deliver high-impact infrastructure that improves product relevance and user experience
- Improve system reliability, latency, observability, and debugability
- Establish strong engineering processes around design reviews, operational readiness, and incident response
- Ensure the team executes effectively against both foundational investments and product-enabling work
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering management experience
- Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale
- Experience leading projects involving backend systems, infrastructure, or platform development
- Strong technical background in system architecture and backend engineering
- Experience hiring, developing, and managing engineers
