Head of Marketing [M4-M5]
Sourcegraph
Who we are
Our mission at Sourcegraph is to make it so that everyone can code, not just ~0.1% of the population.
Everything is changing in how software gets built, and Sourcegraph builds tools that make it easier at scale. Code Search helps devs explore and understand massive codebases. Amp, our agentic coding tool, dramatically accelerates the time it takes to write new code and tackle complex problems like migrating and transforming code.
We’re trusted by engineering teams at leading companies like Stripe, Uber, and Palo Alto Networks, and with $225M in funding from investors like a16z, Sequoia, and Redpoint, we are building the tools that will define the next era of enterprise software development. We’re a globally distributed team with a culture of high agency, direct communication, and deep love for developers.
If you want to work at the bleeding edge of software and do the most meaningful work of your career, join us.
Why this job is exciting
We are hiring a Head of Marketing who can help us reset and re-tell the story of Sourcegraph, one of the most critical pieces of AI infrastructure for the largest enterprises building the future in the agentic coding era.
As Head of Marketing, you will report to our CEO and manage our existing Demand Gen, Growth, Marketing Ops, and DevRel teams. But you will be building and executing, too: your focus will be working closely with our Engineering, Product, and Customer teams to tell our story. Our customers are developers and engineering leaders at the largest and most successful companies in the world who rely on us to help them write better code, understand their codebases, secure their products, and adopt the newest and most impactful technology.
Sourcegraph is a $50m ARR business, growing fast, with customers like Stripe, OpenAI, X, Uber, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Capital One, Booking.com, and many more. We are doubling down on our core Search technology for the AI era, including Deep Search (agentic, natural language search), Sourcegraph MCP and API for agents (powering coding agents to search across and build context on the largest codebases in the world), and critical code migration and workflow engines, like Batch Changes (large scale code migrations) and Code Monitors (code change-driven workflows). You will be responsible for the technical product marketing and brand marketing that will bring that story to life in the market, as well as ensuring alignment with and results from our Demand Gen and DevRel teams.
We move fast and hold ourselves to an extremely high bar for product quality and Developer authenticity. If you’ve made a mark in Developer marketing, and are ready to step up to lead an entire marketing organization, talk to us.
About you
You have a track record of success in speaking authentically to a developer audience and building and leading teams that deliver results. You are a storyteller, and excited to work with our engineers and go-to-market teams to craft a story that connects with our enterprise audience. You have a strong interest in generative AI and its applications in developer tools.
Must haves:
- You have 8+ years of work experience in product marketing, brand marketing, or demand gen marketing, including recent work in the developer tools AI space
- You have managed and led marketing teams to success, with verifiable results
- You are ready and excited to roll up your sleeves to do core product and brand marketing work yourself. Strategy building, content creation, social media marketing, user and customer interviews, and more.
- You think quantitatively, and are comfortable making tough prioritization decisions backed by data and owning our most important marketing metrics.
- You’ve worked in an environment serving enterprise customers.
- You think fast, work fast, and are comfortable with putting your bold ideas and yourself out there.
- You enjoy writing and consider yourself a strong writer.
Nice-to-haves:
- You have some experience with code. This could be writing code professionally, or familiarity through schoolwork, or just as a hobby or interest. Our products are all about making developers’ lives easier as they write code, so a basic understanding of the process of writing and maintaining code will be critical to your product expertise and empathy for developers.
- You live in the Bay Area and are willing to work in office 2–3 days per week.
